National Carriers was incorporated in 1968 in Liberal, Kansas , as a contract carrier to service National Beef Packing Company. The company was started with three trucks and trailers leased from individual owner operators.

As the packing plant grew, so did the need for premium transportation services. In 1974, National Carriers obtained common carrier authority from the ICC. This allowed for a more aggressive growth strategy.
In March of 2003, National Beef, LLC purchased controlling shares in National Carriers, Inc. returning the company to its roots. Closely following that transaction, U.S Premium Beef purchased controlling shares in National Beef. This strategic move allowed both companies to remain operating with their respective successful management teams to continue the progressive growth of both companies.
